Adopting a WASR Dog
Adoption Procedure
If you find a dog on this website that interests you, the first step is to complete an adoption application. There are several ways to complete an application:
After receipt of the adoption application, a WASR representative will contact you within 7-10 days. Please note WASR is a volunteer only rescue and response times may be affected by volunteer availability. After a review of the application and reference check, an in-home visit is scheduled whenever possible. The in-home visit serves multiple purposes, giving the rescue representative an opportunity to meet family members, other pets and animals, and anyone living in the home. The rep can get a feel for the environment in which the adopted dog will be living. Any questions about the process or dog to be adopted can be answered. Oftentimes, suggestions can be made by the rep on how to ensure the newly adopted dog can be kept safe and happy. The rescue wants to be sure that the best possible match between dog and owner is made.
WASR asks for a rescue donation of $400-$650, to help defray any funds spent on the costs of spay/neuter, vaccinations, heartworm test, microchip ID, and other office, foster and transport costs incurred. In cases of long-distance adoptions, the responsibility of transportation for the adopted dog is that of the adopters. When possible, Western Australian Shepherd Rescue has a network of transporters who may be able to assist with transport.
