"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.
You are his life, his love, his leader.
He will be yours, faithful and true,
to the last beat of his heart.

You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."

Adoption Spotlight on:
Allison!

Picture
Don't tell Allison she is a "special needs" dog, she is quite capable of figuring out life using her other senses! Allison came to Western Australian Shepherd Rescue after having both her eyes removed due to an untreated eye disease. She has "mapped" her foster home to avoid obstacles and is attending scent work classes and learning to negotiate obstacles to find tasty treats. What a smart girl!

If you are interested in learning more about Allison please click here to go to her bio.

Western Australian Shepherd Rescue is a small, volunteer run, non-profit dedicated to the rescue and placement of Australian Shepherd dogs and other herding dog breeds in need. Our goal is to help place these dogs in loving, permanent homes or service careers.

Originally, our organization was formed in 1998 by a very small group of volunteers committed to helping Aussies. We have since evolved to help all herding breeds as well as the occasional Chihuahua, doodle, hound, terrier, and so on.

Foster

Foster Homes Desperately Needed!

The need for foster homes in our rescue work is greater than ever as more people are forced to give up their doggy companions for many reasons.

We take in dogs of all ages, sizes, and temperament. We try to match our foster homes with an appropriate dog who will fit into the humans life as well as possible.

Please consider becoming a foster home and help us save and rehome more dogs. Go to our Foster Home page to learn more and fill out an application.

About Western Australian Shepherd Rescue

Western Australian Shepherd Rescue is a small, volunteer run, non-profit dedicated to the rescue and placement of Australian Shepherd dogs and other herding dog breeds in need. Our goal is to help place these dogs in loving, permanent homes or service careers.

Where do our dogs come from?

Our dogs come from a variety of places around the Western states, Texas, and the Midwest. We work with local shelters in the Pacific NW and have rescue partners throughout Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, and Montana. We also take in owner surrenders that need new homes for a variety of reasons.

What type of dogs do we get and where are they located?

We take in senior dogs, puppies, young adults, special need dogs, sick dogs, and behaviorially challenged dogs. All of our dogs are in volunteer foster homes. The rescue is funded through personal donations, yard sales, other fund raisers, and dog adoption fees.

Why are there so many Aussies/herding breeds needing new homes?

More and more Aussies and herding breeds are ending up in shelters or needing re-homing. This is usually due to a lack of research by the owner about what a herding breed dog needs to succeed. Herding breeds are often too active and smart for some owners. These dogs need daily mental training and exercise to happily flourish in their homes and become great life-long companions.
