Fostering FAQ
Where does Western Australian Shepherd Rescue get their dogs from?
Western Australian Shepherd Rescue takes in dogs from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana. We also have several contacts in other states around the country who ask us to help with homeless dogs as well. We take in dogs from owners who are no longer able to care for them, local shelters, and even other rescue organizations.
Where do WASR foster dogs stay?
We do not have a physical shelter, so where do the dogs go? The dogs that come into our program go into a foster home to receive the care and attention they need until they find their forever home.
How long does a WASR dog stay in a foster home?
Our foster dogs stay in a foster home until they find their forever home which can be a few days to several months. We try to keep a foster dog in the same home until they are adopted because it is better for them to have as little change as possible.
What do I need to do to become a WASR foster home?
Fill out the Foster Home application below and a volunteer will contact you once it has been reviewed.
What does WASR provide to a foster home?
WASR will provide veterinary care (vaccines, flea/tick, etc), food, and if needed by the foster home - dog bowls, bed, crate, collar, leash, and toys. Some of the dog gear will be gently used but clean. If the foster home has items they wish to use they may certainly do so.
